As the world leader in the manufacturing of
containers for gases, Amtrol-Alfa has accepted the challenge to
develop the so-called gas container for the 21st century.
|
| |
|
For Amtrol-Alfa a hybrid cylinder is a cylinder
which is composed of a pressure resistant part made of steel,
conforming to all traditional construction codes, namely EN1442,
DOT-4BA and ISO4706, and accessories (shroud and/or foot ring) made of
a different material.
|
| |
|
In an environment of strong competition, gas
distributing companies are struggling to create new market niches, and
to better exploit existing ones.
|
|
 |
 |
|
| |
|
The cylinder, being an integral part of the gas
distribution offering, has a lead role in this change.
|
| |
|
Gas companies are investing in changing the image
of LPGas, developing new portable packaging, which is more attractive and more
consumer friendly.
|
| |
|
Being in the cylinder business for more than 40
years, and listening to our customers, A-A decided
to start developing new, innovative solutions for cylinders in order
to anticipate its customers' needs.
|
| |
|
These concept ideas are then discussed with our customers, and brought into the production stage as truly
innovative concepts.
|
| |
|
Several options are already available, and
others are currently being developed. |

Rabbit
Cylinders
|
|
The Rabbit is a hybrid cylinder, with proven
success within the LPG and Refrigerant gas market. Two unique
polyethylene handles, incorporating a "SOFT GRIP" made of E.P.D.M.
(RUBBER) are attached to the cylinder body, to form the "RABBIT". The
Rabbit passed international requirements related to impact resistance,
passing the EN962 drop test. |
| |
| Features |
-
Innovative design.
-
Strong retail / consumer
focus.
-
Company colours can be
developed for the handles and body.
-
Patented design.
-
Ergonomic design:
- Soft grip.
- No sharp ends.
- Easier and safer handling.
-
Stackable and entirely suitable for all transport modes.
-
Any water / liquid spill
on the cylinders should flow off the cylinders with ease.
-
Plenty of space for
connection of regulators or other devices.
-
Suitable for most types
of valves.
-
High resistance to
shocks, scratching and to U.V. rays.
-
Fully recyclable.

Full
Jacket Cylinders
|
|
The Full-Jacket is a hybrid cylinder, designed
specially for in-house use. The pressure resistant part is made of
steel, conforming to all the traditional construction codes, namely
European directive 84/527, EN13322-1 and ISO4706. This steel body is
fully wrapped in a plastic jacket, which provides the
cylinder with special properties. The Full-jacket passed the international requirements related to
impact resistance, namely the EN962 drop test. |

NGS (New
Generation Shroud)
Cylinders
|
|
Following the success of "The rabbit", Amtrol-Alfa decided to create a
new shroud to be used on smaller diameter cylinders (up to 300 mm).
This new shroud is a technical development of its predecessor
including some innovations by Amtrol-Alfa's research group.
Cylinders equipped with the new NGS are hybrid cylinders. The NGS
passed international requirements related to impact resistance, namely
the EN962 drop test. |
| |
| This NGS includes some innovative solutions: |
-
Shroud rotates on
the cylinder top (optional). This feature permits the easy
alignment of the valve outlet to the shroud opening. It also
facilitates the installation of complicated apparatus
(regulators, pressure gauges, etc.) on the valve outlet.
-
Different colours
for different uses. The shrouds can be manufactured in
different colours, for different uses; for the LPG industry, a
colour for propane and a colour for butane; for the
refrigeration industry, one colour for each gas (green for
R22, pink for R410A, orange for R404A...). This allows all cylinder bodies
to be painted in a neutral colour, and differentiates the
cylinder by shroud only.
-
Two optional
systems for assembling the shroud on to the cylinder body.
Depending on the end application, the customer can choose
between two different assembly options:
|
|
 |
 |
| |
|
Water Capacity |
9 - 26 ℓ |
|
Outer Diameter |
229 -
300 mm |
|
|
|
-
REMOVABLE: Where the customer wishes to remove the shroud often, for
servicing or change of service, the NGS offers the possibility of an
assembly system that permits the removal of the shroud without damaging it
(you only have to replace a new fixing pin during subsequent
use). This assembly system was specially designed for refrigeration
applications where the cylinder can be used for a variety of gases.
-
UNREMOVABLE: Where the customer opts for a more solid assembly, the
shroud can also be manufactured with fixing clips. After
clipping, the shroud can only be removed by drilling a hole in a
specific point. The shroud is destroyed after being removed from the
cylinder.
